Maple Lake Property Owners:

One of the stated objectives of the Maple Lake – Lake Property Owners’ Association, Inc. (MLLPOA) bylaws is to “Promote sound shoreland management, soil-water conservation, and pollution prevention and abatement efforts.” The Board is encouraging and supporting these efforts with an offer of financial assistance.

Significant erosion and loss of Maple Lake watershed topsoil has been experienced from adjacent properties over the past several years that have impacted Maple Lake, due to many large individual rainfall amounts. In some areas, culverts, shorelines, roadside ditches and retaining structures have experienced significant damage and washouts, resulting in road gravel, soil, and organic matter flushing into the lake.

To address this problem, the MLLPOA Board of Directors (Board) is working to identify culverts and other areas with excessive uncontrolled runoff into the lake. This is done with the intention of devising and implementing a remediation plan to abate these lake pollution sources. We are working with the Wright Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) to obtain funds and grants for these projects.

For identified and SWCD approved projects, SWCD will frequently fund 75% of the cost, with the affected property owner being responsible for the remaining 25%.

The Board has determined that financial support for this work is money well spent and in keeping with the Association objectives.  Property owners, on or off the lake, are encouraged to work with the Board and SWCD to identify and repair problem areas that impact Maple Lake.

For eligible projects, the Board has set a limit of $10,000, or up to 60% of the affected property assessment. Each project will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with funding approved by the MLLPOA Board of Directors, as funds are available.

Fund dollars cannot be spent on landscape, lakeshore, or beach improvements.

Property owners that are interested are urged to contact Mike Raiche at 612-716-4526
